What Is Balayage?
Sometimes known as the free-hand hair dyeing technique, the term ‘balayage’ comes from the french word ‘to sweep’. Hair colourists apply the dye in a graduated way to create a more natural, sunkissed effect to your mid and lower locks. When you compare balayage to traditional highlights, balayage blends in better on your hair. As it is a more subtle colour change, it looks far more natural than other highlighting techniques. Balayage Vs Ombre
What is the difference between Ombre and Balayage? There are some similarities. They both involve dyeing your hair with the colour building at the end of your hair. So, what’s the difference?
Ombre is a hair colour technique where all the ends are affected, the transition from the darker roots and light ends is far shorter. The definition for Ombre is the French word for 'colour' that is shaded or graduated in tone. Ombre starts getting lighter half way down the hair and turns to a solid colour at the ends. It will be noticeably coloured and intensify quite quickly.
Balayage is far more subtle, there is no clear point where the dyed area starts. As the hair is not fully coloured at the ends, there is a mixture of light and dark to keep it looking naturally sun-kissed.
